Sgt. Brandon King (played by Ryan Phillippe) came back to his hometown from his deployment in Iraq as a decorated war hero. He and his best friend thought that they had returned home to America to build a new life as their required term of Army service was complete. However, Sgt. King was surprised to find out that after ten days of leave he had to report back to Iraq because he had been retained under the “Stop Loss” policy.
In “Stop Loss” we are forced to face the stark reality of war and its casualties. We come face-to-face with the painful sacrifices our brave American men and women in uniform have to endure in order for us to enjoy our freedom.
Ryan Phillippe, Channing Tatum, Abbie Cornish, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt stunningly displayed raw, mixed-up emotions caused by an endless war for us to ponder in this movie.
In the end, we all learn a valuable lesson from “Stop Loss”. We should not take freedom for granted and we all owe a very deep respect to our American soldiers who dedicate themselves to guard our safety.
Thus, “Stop Loss” earns 3 stars from this movie buff.
